Open days
Going to an open day can help you get a better idea of what to expect. You will also meet lots of staff (including people from student services / SEND / autism support).
You can find out about upcoming open days on the college's events page.

10 things that are probably different from school
- On some courses, you have to wear a uniform, but on most you do not. You will have a lanyard though.
- You can leave college at lunch time and go into town if you want to.
- You can use your phone around college, as long as you put it away in class.
- Everyone gets called by their first name (even the staff).
- You are more responsible for making the right decisions. It is unlikely that anyone will shout at you, and there are no detentions. You are treated more like an adult, and expected to try your best.
- There is generally more support. If you are having trouble with something, I find you don't need to "prove" you need help as much.
- Your timetable will look a bit different to a standard school one. Most students have an extra day off, but some of the days might be longer.
- You might spend the whole day in the same classroom, with the same people. This can be good or bad, depending on the people and the class!
- The classes are small. My class had eleven people in. This depends on your class, but it will probably be under twenty people.
- Your course will probably be more practical. That means there will probably be less worksheets, and more doing stuff.
