Words to know

When you start college, they will explain lots of these things to you. I wrote this list in case you aren't sure, or need a reminder.

Word Meaning
Assignment workshop This is something you might see in your timetable. It means "time to get on with whatever work you have been set to do". It's useful, because it means you don't have to do that work at home!
Bursary If you find it hard to pay for the costs of being a student, you might be able to get a bursary. A bursary is money you can use to help pay these costs. You can find out more on the college website.
Core Core is a lesson when you learn about life skills (like road safety or alcohol). It might have been called PSHE education or Learning For Life at your school.
Confusingly, theory lessons can also be called core on some courses.
Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) Most students with SEND (additional needs) can get their needs met by the college. But if you need a lot of support, an EHCP can help you access that support. EHCPs are funded by Oxfordshire County Council.
Enrichment Enrichment is a time when your class do something fun, that isn't related to the curriculum. You could watch a film, play games or take part in a fun project.
You might see this on your timetable.
FEAST FEAST stands for the Further Education Autism Support Team. It includes all the people (like Michelle and Claudia) who are a part of autism support at college.
Open days An event where people can come and visit the college to find out if they want to become a student.
ProMonitor This is a website that college staff use to find information. If something happens, they can write it down on ProMonitor so anyone who needs to know about it can see it.
ProPortal ProPortal is a website that college students use to find information. You can find your targets, attendance and documents about you on it. Someone will show you how to use this when you start college.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) If you have SEND (like autism), that means you may need additional support at college.
Teams In this context, Teams is short for Microsoft Teams. It is a website and an app that the college uses to communicate and share information. You may think it is very confusing, slow, and doesn't make any sense but almost everyone thinks that, so don't worry!
You will get taught how to use it when you start college.
Vocational This is something you might see in your timetable. It means "doing stuff related to your course" (not core, or enrichment, or english and maths). It is the ordinary lessons you will spend most of your time at college in.
