The green room is a quiet place in college that you can go for a break or support. You do not have to knock to go in the green room, and it is always open during college hours.
A picture of the green room, taken from the door. Michelle and Claudia work on the desks on the right, but students can sit anywhere else in the room and use the computers, books and fidgets.
Michelle and Claudia
Michelle and Claudia work in the green room. They can help you solve problems that are making college difficult. They are also good people to chat to!
Another good thing is that they can talk to your teachers about the best ways ways to support you.
Michelle and Claudia are very nice, and are good listeners! They are also very knowledgeable. You might meet them at an open day if you go to one.
What do students use the green room for?
Lots of things!
- It is a nice, quiet place to go at break times or lunch times. Some people play computer games, or talk and eat lunch there.
- Talking to Michelle or Claudia. Or talking to other students, if they want to.
- You can work in the green room. Some people do this if they are finding it hard to work in class.
- Playing games, colouring or watching videos - there are lots of colouring books!
- You can go there if you just need space to calm down or take a break.
Another view of the green room from the other side. You can also see more computers out the door - those are available for all students. There is also a water tap outside, and toilets on the floor below and above (by the lift).
Why isn't it green?
If you were an actor, a green room would be the place where you went to prepare before you went on stage/TV. But those rooms aren't always green either!
As a student, the green room is a place you can go to prepare for the rest of the college day.
I'm not sure where the term came from. I think its just one of those strange things people say.
Getting to the green room
The green room is in Courthouse - that is the first building you go past when you enter the college. The green room is on the first floor (the one above the ground floor, which I don't really understand).
Using the stairs
Scan your ID on the automatic doors (they are not really automatic because you have to scan your ID, I know!). Go into Courthouse building. Go past the English and Maths hub on your left. There is a door leading to the stairs. Scan your ID badge and open the door. Walk up the stairs.
The green room is on your left.
Using the lift
When you get your ID, make sure it has Courthouse lift access on it. This means your ID badge will work on the lift. You can ask at reception (in Early Building) for them to give you access if you haven't got it yet. Lots of students with visible and invisible disabilities need lift access, it is not a problem. Once you have access, this is what you do.
Scan your ID on the automatic doors. Go into Courthouse building. Go past the English and Maths hub on your left. The lift is on your right, next to the toilets. Scan your ID and the lift will come (it can be slow). Choose floor one. When the lift opens on the right floor, get out and go right. The green room is in the corner by the stairs.
